Government Rules and Regulations

We know how time sensitive SMEs are and how hard it is to stay updated on new rules and regulations. We want to make it as easy as possible for. you to know what new carbon regulations apply to you, this resources page will hopefully make it a lot clearer!

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)

The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) is a framework that makes it mandatory for large companies to report their energy consumption and related carbon emissions.

It is a means for companies to report their carbon and energy and receive any benefits from environmental reporting.

Whilst the reporting is only mandatory for large companies, the Government is encouraging companies of all sizes to complete similar reporting

The SECR framework only mandates that Scope 1 & 2 are to be reported and Scope 3 is voluntary but strongly encouraged

Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP)

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is an internationally recognised accounting and reporting standard for companies to measure and manage their GHG emissions.

The GHGP offers a number of standards, tools, classes, and resources for companies to consult and use for GHG accounting.

GHGP has set Scopes for companies to understand their emissions:

Scope 1: Direct emissions from a company

Scope 2: any purchased electricity, heating, steam, and cooling

Scope 3: all other indirect emissions from both source and value chain.
